Pakistan and India exchanged lists of their nuclear installations on Thursday under a bilateral agreement, the Foreign Office said.
Speaking at a weekly media briefing in Islamabad, MoFA spokesperson Tahir Hussain Andrabi said the exchange follows the Agreement on the Prohibition of Attacks against Nuclear Installations and Facilities, signed by Pakistan and India on December 31, 1988.
Andrabi confirmed that Pakistan formally handed over its list of nuclear installations and facilities to a representative of the Indian High Commission at the Foreign Office. At the same time, India shared its list with Pakistan’s High Commission in New Delhi.
The spokesperson explained that such exchanges are part of ongoing confidence-building measures between the two countries. These measures aim to reduce risks of misunderstandings and promote regional stability.
In addition to nuclear installations, Pakistan and India also exchanged lists of prisoners held in each other’s custody. These exchanges were carried out through official diplomatic channels, reflecting continued adherence to bilateral agreements.
Andrabi also commented on regional developments. He expressed concern over the situation in Yemen and emphasized Pakistan’s view that the crisis should be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s full support for Saudi Arabia in the matter.
The Foreign Office spokesperson said these exchanges demonstrate Pakistan’s commitment to transparency and peace in the region. He noted that agreements like these help maintain mutual trust and prevent unintended conflicts.
Officials also stressed that Pakistan will continue to follow all protocols and agreements in its relations with India, focusing on peaceful engagement and cooperation.
Such diplomatic measures are crucial for ensuring stability in South Asia. Regular communication and exchanges of sensitive information reduce tensions and strengthen international norms between Pakistan and India.
