Pakistan and Bangladesh have resumed direct air connectivity after a 14-year gap, marking a historic milestone in bilateral relations. The move is expected to strengthen trade, travel, and people-to-people ties between the two countries.
The first flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines is scheduled to land in Karachi tonight. Flight BG341 will depart Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at 8am and arrive at Jinnah International Airport at 11am. This three-hour journey restores direct travel between Pakistan and Bangladesh after more than a decade.
Authorities at Karachi airport and the Civil Aviation Department have made special preparations for the arrival of the inaugural flight. Officials confirmed that all operational and welcome arrangements are complete to ensure smooth service.
Initially, Biman Bangladesh Airlines will operate two flights per week between Karachi and Dhaka, on Thursdays and Saturdays. The inaugural flight is fully booked with all 162 seats sold, and most tickets for the second flight are also reserved. The strong demand shows the need for direct connectivity between the two countries.
The return flight will leave Karachi at 12pm and reach Dhaka at 4:20am the next day. The service will operate on a trial basis from January 29 to March 30, 2026. Authorities will review passenger response and operational performance to decide on continuation or expansion.
Currently, most travelers between Pakistan and Bangladesh rely on transit flights through hubs like Dubai or Doha. The restoration of direct flights is expected to save time, reduce travel costs, and make journeys more convenient for passengers.
Officials believe the resumed air links will boost cultural exchange and strengthen people-to-people contacts. Travelers and authorities alike have welcomed the move as a positive step toward improving Pakistan-Bangladesh relations.
