Pakistan and Afghanistan faced off in a tense AFC Asian Cup 2027 qualifier at Islamabad’s Jinnah Stadium, ending in a goalless draw. Both teams displayed determination, but neither could find the breakthrough despite several chances.

Pakistan started strongly, controlling possession and creating early pressure. The home crowd came alive when Pakistan earned a penalty in the 67th minute, but Otis Khan’s effort was saved, keeping the score 0-0. That missed opportunity proved costly as Afghanistan’s defence held firm until the final whistle.

Afghanistan, who faced travel and preparation challenges before the game, showed strong discipline at the back. Their goalkeeper made crucial saves, while their defenders successfully contained Pakistan’s attacks.

With this result, both teams share one point each in the group. Pakistan is still searching for its first win in the AFC qualifiers after earlier defeats, while Afghanistan also remains winless.

Coaches from both sides praised their teams’ effort but admitted missed chances and fatigue played a major role in the result. The return leg between Pakistan and Afghanistan is set to take place on October 14 in Kuwait, where both teams will aim for their first victory.
