Jet Fuel Spike Forces Pakistan Airlines to Increase Fares

Airlines in Pakistan have increased ticket fares following a sharp rise in jet fuel prices. The move affects both domestic and international routes. Airline sources confirmed the fare adjustments, citing higher operational costs due to fuel price surges.

Domestic flight tickets from Karachi to Lahore, Islamabad, and other cities have increased by Rs. 2,800 to Rs. 5,000 per ticket. The rise comes as airlines try to manage expenses after jet fuel prices jumped by Rs. 154 per litre, reaching Rs. 342 per litre.

International fares have also seen a significant increase. Ticket prices to countries in the Middle East and Central Asia rose by up to Rs. 15,000 per passenger. Flights to destinations such as Toronto and Manchester experienced the largest fare hikes, with one-way economy class tickets now exceeding Rs. 250,000.

Airline officials explained that the adjustments are necessary to maintain service quality while covering the increased cost of fuel. They noted that the global rise in aviation fuel prices has directly impacted operating expenses for airlines in Pakistan.

The increase is expected to affect travel demand, especially for international routes. Analysts said travelers may now reconsider non-essential trips due to higher ticket costs. However, airlines emphasize that fare hikes are unavoidable under current economic conditions.

Experts believe that these fare increases reflect the broader challenges facing the aviation sector in Pakistan. Rising fuel prices, inflation, and currency fluctuations have created a difficult operating environment for airlines. The industry hopes for government support to stabilize prices and protect passengers from sudden fare shocks.

Passengers are advised to check updated ticket prices before booking flights. Airlines continue to monitor fuel costs and may adjust fares further in response to market fluctuations.
