Pakistan Aims For 1 Million AI Developers And 1,000 Local AI Products By 2030

Pakistan has announced an ambitious target to strengthen its artificial intelligence sector by 2030. The plan includes training over one million AI developers and creating at least 1,000 local AI products. Experts believe this step will secure digital data within national borders and boost the country’s technological progress.

During a session at the 26th ITCN Asia 2025, Mehwish Salman, Member of the AI Committee at PASHA, explained the importance of building local solutions. She said Pakistan must invest in data security, cloud services, and AI infrastructure to meet its national goals.

Adnan Zaidi, Co-Chair of PASHA’s AI Committee and Member of the AI Task Force at the Ministry of IT, stressed the rising demand for skilled AI developers. He highlighted that sectors like healthcare, education, finance, and logistics can greatly benefit from indigenous AI products. According to Zaidi, Pakistan must encourage partnerships between academia and the private sector to train fresh graduates and offer practical opportunities.

Salman also pointed out that Pakistan is among the top users of ChatGPT worldwide. However, she warned that relying on foreign platforms risks the security of personal and business data. She emphasized that developing local apps and solutions would protect sensitive information and serve users better through cultural and language-specific features.

Experts at the roundtable urged the government to establish Centres of Excellence in AI, along with funds to support startups and research. Proposals included launching an AI Innovation Fund and an AI Venture Fund to drive growth.

They also stressed the need for regulations to prevent misuse of AI in sensitive sectors like banking. Ethical standards, cybersecurity measures, and awareness programs were recommended to ensure responsible adoption.

With proper investment and cooperation, Pakistan has the potential to emerge as a regional leader in AI innovation by 2030.
