Pakistan, Afghan Forces Exchange Fire in Kurram Amid Rising Border Tensions

Fresh clashes broke out between Pakistani and Afghan forces along the Kurram district border, escalating tensions between the two neighboring countries. Reports indicate that both sides exchanged heavy gunfire and artillery earlier this week, particularly near Piewar village in the Shorko sector.

According to Pakistani security officials, the confrontation began when troops foiled an infiltration attempt by Afghan border forces allegedly supporting Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants trying to enter Pakistani territory. In retaliation, Pakistani forces launched a strong counterattack, reportedly killing several TTP members and Afghan soldiers. Officials claimed that Afghan troops later abandoned their positions during the exchange.

Following the incident, security across Kurram and adjoining tribal areas has been heightened.

However, Afghan authorities denied any recent clashes. Wahidullah Mohammadi, spokesperson for the 201st Khalid Bin Walid Corps, dismissed the reports as baseless, saying, “Claims of fighting in the eastern zone are completely false.”
