On Friday, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Pakistan’s State Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication, celebrated the country’s achievement in the latest global cybersecurity rankings. Pakistan has been elevated to Tier 1 in the International Telecommunication Union’s Global Cybersecurity Index 2024, a significant leap from its previous position.
Tier 1, the highest classification, signifies “role-modelling” with scores ranging from 95 to 100. This tier includes 46 countries, reflecting their exemplary cybersecurity practices. Previously, Pakistan was ranked 79th.

In a press conference held in Islamabad, Khawaja praised Pakistan’s advancements in legal, technical, capacity, and skill development, noting that the country is now recognized for its role-model status in cybersecurity. The report highlights Pakistan’s substantial progress in legal frameworks, capacity building, and incident response capabilities.
Pakistan joins other leading nations such as the United States, Japan, Singapore, Australia, Saudi Arabia, and Malaysia in this top tier, underscoring its improved cybersecurity standing on the global stage.
