Pakistan witnessed a significant surge in labor migration during the current fiscal year, with more than one million citizens leaving for overseas employment, as revealed by the *Economic Survey 2024-25*. The report outlines regional disparities in labor migration, with Punjab contributing the highest number of workers.
Punjab accounted for 404,345 overseas workers, the largest share among all regions. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa followed with 187,000 expatriates, while Sindh recorded 60,424 workers seeking employment abroad.
Additionally, 29,937 individuals from tribal areas and 29,591 from Azad Jammu and Kashmir migrated for better job prospects. Smaller contributions came from Islamabad (8,621 workers), Balochistan (5,668), and Gilgit-Baltistan (1,692).
The findings highlight the growing reliance on overseas employment as a key driver of Pakistan’s economy, particularly through remittances, while shedding light on varying migration trends across provinces.
