Nadra Reports Over 7 Million Pakistanis Have Not Obtained ID Cards

The National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) reported on Friday that over 7 million Pakistanis aged 18 and above have not obtained their national identity cards. These individuals are eligible for CNICs but remain unregistered at the national level.

According to Nadra, the absence of official ID cards has created opportunities for fraud. Experts warn that this gap can be exploited by fraudsters, including cases where Afghan nationals are illegally included in family records using forged documents.

Records from Nadra show that many of these individuals already have valid B-forms, birth certificates, or entries in Union Councils. However, without a CNIC, their identities remain unverified, leaving them vulnerable to misuse.

Nadra emphasised that obtaining a CNIC is crucial to secure personal identity and prevent fraud. The authority continues to encourage citizens to complete their registration promptly.

Officials noted that individuals without Nadra-issued IDs could face difficulties accessing government services and financial opportunities. This lack of verification also limits participation in elections and other official processes.

Fraudsters may exploit unverified records to insert non-citizens into legitimate family trees. Nadra warned that such activities could undermine the integrity of national data and public trust in official records.

The authority has launched awareness campaigns to educate the public about the importance of CNICs. Nadra officials are also providing support at registration centers to help citizens complete the process efficiently.

By strengthening national registration, Nadra aims to reduce identity fraud and ensure every eligible Pakistani is formally recognised. Authorities urge all citizens to verify their records and obtain CNICs without delay.

Nadra’s efforts are part of a broader strategy to enhance national security and data accuracy. Securing a CNIC not only safeguards personal identity but also protects the rights of every Pakistani.
