Over 1,000 healthcare professionals have enlisted to travel to and provide medical care for the numerous patients in the besieged Gaza Strip amid the ongoing crisis. Dr. Zahid Latif, the Chairman of Al-Khidmat Health Foundation, disclosed this information during an interview with a local news outlet.

Among these medical practitioners, 400 are women, and they encompass a variety of specialties, such as orthopedic, vascular, and general surgeons, anesthetists, pediatric surgeons, emergency and critical care specialists, as well as gynecologists.

The Gaza Ministry of Health has reported a catastrophic breakdown of the healthcare system, largely due to the destruction of multiple medical facilities by Israeli airstrikes. Tragically, many doctors and paramedics have lost their lives. Moreover, over 18,000 individuals have sustained injuries, with the majority lacking access to essential medical supplies.

Dr. Latif stated that the Pakistani healthcare specialists’ willingness to assist in Gaza has been communicated to the World Health Organization (WHO) country office in Islamabad and the WHO EMRO head office in Cairo, Egypt.

They have requested guidance on when they can enter the conflict zone. However, Al-Khidmat has not yet received approval from the WHO and its partner organizations to deploy healthcare professionals to any neighboring country of Israel to aid Gaza.
