Microsoft-backed OpenAI’s ChatGPT was restored after experiencing an outage that affected thousands of users, the company confirmed on Friday. OpenAI stated that the issues had been resolved, with access largely restored by 4:34 p.m. PT (0034 GMT Saturday). A small number of users continued to face problems until 5 p.m. (0100 GMT Saturday).
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman commented on the outage via X, noting that ChatGPT had been down for about 30 minutes, expressing frustration with a frown emoji, and acknowledging that, despite improvements in reliability, there was still more work to be done.

According to outage-tracking site Downdetector, the service disruption lasted around half an hour, affecting over 19,403 users as of 7:13 p.m. ET (0013 GMT Saturday).
Since its launch in November 2022, ChatGPT has gained 250 million weekly active users. OpenAI’s valuation has soared to $157 billion, up from $14 billion in 2021, with revenues reaching $3.6 billion, far surpassing initial expectations.
