ChatGPT, the widely used AI chatbot, faced a significant outage today, rendering the service inaccessible to users worldwide.

Reports of the disruption began surfacing on social media platforms and outage-monitoring websites. OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, confirmed the issue and assured users that efforts were underway to resolve it.

In a message posted on X (formerly Twitter), OpenAI stated: “We’re experiencing an outage right now. We have identified the issue and are working to roll out a fix. Sorry, and we’ll keep you updated!”

Service Disruption Details

Although the exact cause of the outage has not yet been disclosed, users attempting to access ChatGPT encountered error messages indicating that the service was unavailable. The outage has impacted a diverse range of users, including students, researchers, businesses, and individuals who depend on the AI tool for various tasks.

OpenAI has not provided a timeline for when the issue will be fully resolved. Users are advised to monitor OpenAI’s official channels for updates.

Meta Platforms Also Hit by Outages

In a related development, Meta platforms—including Facebook, Instagram, and Threads—experienced disruptions late last night, affecting thousands of users worldwide, including in Pakistan.

According to Downdetector.com, nearly 1,000 users in Pakistan reported issues with Meta services around 11 PM, while WhatsApp logged over 2,259 complaints starting at 10:52 PM. Instagram saw more than 1,200 outage reports within the same period.

Some users reported encountering errors such as “something went wrong” on Facebook and Instagram. Meta acknowledged the issues in a brief statement on Facebook, saying, “We’re working on getting this fixed as soon as we can.”

Both incidents highlight the increasing reliance on digital platforms and the widespread impact outages can have on users globally.
