OGDCL has announced a major oil and gas discovery at its Baragzai X-01 (Slant) exploratory well in the Nashpa Block, located in district Kohat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The company shared the development through a notice sent to the Pakistan Stock Exchange and the London Stock Exchange.
According to the statement, the exploratory well recorded a flow rate of 2,280 barrels of oil per day and 5.6 million standard cubic feet per day of gas. The wellhead flowing pressure was reported at 2,400 psi through a 32/64-inch choke. These results confirm the presence of significant hydrocarbons in the region.
This discovery is notable because it is the first oil and gas find from the Kingriali Formation within the Nashpa Block. OGDCL operates the block with a 65 percent working interest. Its joint venture partners include Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) with 30 percent and Government Holdings (Private) Limited (GHPL) with a 5 percent carried interest.
The Baragzai X-01 (Slant) well was spud on December 24, 2024, and drilled to a depth of 5,170 meters. The target was the Kingriali Formation. During drilling, the well encountered a 90-meter hydrocarbon-bearing interval of Triassic age. Encouraging hydrocarbon indications and open hole wireline log analysis supported the decision to conduct a cased hole drill stem test. The successful test confirmed the presence of commercially viable reserves.
OGDCL stated that the new discovery strengthens the potential of deeper reservoirs in the area. The company noted that the find will support national efforts to reduce reliance on imported energy. It will also help bridge the country’s supply and demand gap by boosting domestic production.

The company added that this discovery will benefit its joint venture partners and contribute to Pakistan’s long-term energy security. It emphasized that the results reflect the company’s ongoing commitment to explore new geological horizons and expand the country’s indigenous hydrocarbon base.
