OGDCL Confirms Successful Gas Test at Kohat TAL Block

The Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) announced the successful appraisal of gas and condensate from the Lumshiwal Formation at the Bilitang-1-ST-1 exploratory well. The well is located in Kohat district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The company disclosed the update through a notice to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX). The appraisal confirms the production potential of the previously discovered reserves and supports further exploration in the TAL Block.

The TAL Joint Venture carried out the appraisal, which includes OGDCL (30% working interest), MOL Pakistan Oil & Gas Co. B.V. (Operator, 10%), Pakistan Petroleum Limited (30%), Pakistan Oilfields Limited (25%), and Government Holdings Private Limited (5%). The consortium worked collaboratively to optimize the well’s performance.

The Bilitang-1-ST-1 well was initially spudded on August 10 last year and later sidetracked to target higher-quality reservoir zones. The well successfully reached a depth of 4004 meters TVD.

Based on LWD/Wireline logs interpretation, the Lumshiwal Formation was tested at a production rate of 26.5 million standard cubic feet per day (MMscfd) of gas. The test used a 32/64” choke, with wellhead flowing pressure recorded at 4,214 PSI.

OGDCL stated that the appraisal has de-risked further exploration in the TAL Block. The development opens up new opportunities for additional gas and condensate production, enhancing the block’s commercial potential.

The success highlights OGDCL’s commitment to expanding Pakistan’s domestic energy supply. By identifying and appraising promising reserves, the company supports the country’s energy security goals while promoting sustainable exploration practices.

Industry experts believe that continued appraisal and development in the TAL Block could significantly increase production and attract further investment in Pakistan’s oil and gas sector.
