Nova Minerals Limited has clarified that discussions on the potential sourcing of antimony from Pakistan remain preliminary and exploratory. The company’s statement came after media reports suggested that a firm agreement had already been reached.
The US-based mining exploration and development firm, listed on the Australian Securities Exchange and NASDAQ, said talks so far have focused only on assessing the feasibility of sourcing antimony concentrate for testing. Nova Minerals emphasized that these discussions do not constitute any binding contract.
“No decision has been made regarding long-term sourcing or investment in Pakistan,” the company said. The conversations have been aimed at evaluating plant capabilities and potential downstream processing in the future.
Nova Minerals also said that its main focus in 2026 remains completing the feasibility study for its gold assets and beginning production of military-grade antimony trisulfide. This project is supported by a $43.4 million award from the United States Department of Defense, reflecting the strategic importance of antimony.
Antimony is a silvery-white metal used in missiles, batteries, and flame retardants, making it important for both industrial and defence applications.
The clarification follows a report by the Financial Times, which stated that Pakistan-based Himalayan Earth Exploration had signed a strategic partnership with Nova Minerals to explore antimony. In November, the Board of Investment met a Nova Minerals delegation, during which the company expressed interest in Pakistan’s mining sector, including antimony and rare earth minerals.
Nova Minerals CEO Christopher Gerteisen reportedly said the company plans to purchase more than 100 tons of Pakistani antimony concentrate for approximately $2 million early next year for testing and processing in Alaska. He added that downstream processing in Pakistan may be considered depending on the outcome of the feasibility assessment.
