Health officials confirmed nine new dengue fever cases across the city, raising concerns over the growing spread of the mosquito-borne virus.
Two cases each were reported in Allama Iqbal Town, Shalamar Town, and Cantonment Zone, while Aziz Bhatti and Gulberg-Nishtar Town recorded one case each. Authorities noted rising mosquito breeding in several areas, warning of a higher risk of further outbreaks.
Although Ganj Bakhsh Town — home to most of Lahore’s major hospitals — has reported only five cases this year, experts cautioned that delayed hospital reporting could mean the actual threat is greater.
Residents have been advised to take preventive steps, including using mosquito repellents, covering water containers, eliminating stagnant water, and maintaining cleanliness to control mosquito breeding.
Dengue symptoms typically appear within 4–10 days of a mosquito bite and include high fever, severe headache, eye pain, body aches, nausea, fatigue, and rash. Severe cases may cause abdominal pain, vomiting, bleeding, and breathing issues, requiring urgent medical care.
Officials stressed that prevention through personal protection and environmental cleanliness remains the most effective way to curb the disease.
