Dr. Alaa al-Najjar, a well-known physician at Nasser Hospital in Gaza, was on duty when an Israeli airstrike reduced her family home to rubble, killing nine of her children—ranging from infancy to 12 years old. Only her 11-year-old son, Adam, survived, though he is critically wounded.
The victims were identified as Sidar, Luqman, Sadin, Reval, Ruslan, Jubran, Eve, Rakan, and Yahya. Her husband also sustained severe head and chest injuries. Now left with just one surviving child, Dr. Najjar remains at their side, as the world mourns her loss.

The devastating strike has sparked global outrage, with many sharing her story online—highlighting the painful irony that she was saving other children while losing her own. Human rights groups and UN officials condemned the attack, calling it part of a “sadistic pattern” and a sign of a “new phase of genocide.”
The attack took place in Khan Younis, Gaza’s second-largest city, currently under relentless bombardment following Israel’s recent evacuation orders. Daily airstrikes have flattened entire neighborhoods.
According to international sources, over 80 people have died in the past few days alone. Since October 2023, the total reported death toll in Gaza has reached nearly 54,000, with more than 122,000 injured—a humanitarian crisis worsening by the hour.
