In a significant step to improve road safety and discipline in Sindh, especially Karachi, the provincial government has introduced tough new traffic regulations targeting repeat offenders. Approved by the Sindh cabinet, these rules include stricter penalties such as the cancellation of driving licenses and blocking of CNICs for those who continually break traffic laws. Fines have been sharply increased, ranging from Rs5,000 to Rs250,000, depending on the severity of the violation.
Inspector General of Police Ghulam Nabi Memon confirmed the reforms, noting that dedicated traffic courts will be established in Karachi to allow citizens to challenge fines. Under the new system, if a traffic fine isn’t paid within 21 days, it will be doubled. After 90 days of non-payment, the individual’s driving license will be cancelled, and if the fine remains unpaid for 180 days, their CNIC will be blocked.
