Pakistan’s energy sector has received a major boost with the Oil & Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) announcing a significant discovery of oil and gas reserves in Attock, Punjab. This breakthrough is expected to enhance the country’s energy output in the coming months.
The discovery was made at the Soghri North-1 well, where drilling began on May 21, 2024. The well is now producing 14 million standard cubic feet (MMscfd) of gas per day, accompanied by 430 barrels of crude oil daily. The production levels indicate a promising future for energy availability in the region.

Experts have weighed in on the potential impact of this discovery, stating that it will help close the gap between Pakistan’s energy supply and demand, which has been a pressing issue in recent years. With the country’s growing energy needs, this discovery could provide much-needed relief to both consumers and the industrial sector.
OGDCL has also confirmed, through an official letter to the Pakistan Stock Exchange, that it holds 100% ownership of the Soghri North-1 well, making this a fully local venture that strengthens the country’s energy independence.
