“NEPRA Finalizes Electricity Price Increase; Per Unit Cost to Near Rs. 50”

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text dp_text_size=”size-4″]The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has tentatively approved a proposal to increase the base tariff of electricity by Rs. 4.96 per unit. This decision is aimed at fulfilling a requirement imposed by the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

The official announcement of the decision is expected later today, and discussions are ongoing regarding whether the increase will be implemented all at once or in a phased manner.

Upon implementation, the national average base tariff will rise from the current rate of Rs. 24.82 per unit to Rs. 30 per unit. However, when additional taxes, including GST, are applied to the new base tariff, the per unit cost is projected to reach approximately Rs. 50.

The exact details of the price hike are expected to be communicated through a notification.
