In a potential relief for electricity consumers, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has completed a hearing on a proposal to reduce the power tariff by 57 paisa per unit for a month. If approved, this reduction could offer much-needed financial respite to households and businesses facing high utility bills.

NEPRA is now in the process of reviewing the data presented during the hearing, with a final decision expected soon. The proposed reduction could provide an estimated collective relief of over Rs 7 billion to consumers across the country.
While this measure would provide temporary relief, the broader issue of persistently high electricity rates continues to burden many Pakistanis, making long-term solutions a pressing concern.
