Nepra has Announced a Reduction of Rs1.79 Per Unit in Electricity Prices

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has announced a reduction in electricity tariffs, providing much-needed relief to consumers. According to the official notification, power rates have been lowered by Rs1.79 per unit under the fuel cost adjustment (FCA) for the month of July.

The adjustment will be applicable to consumers of all distribution companies (DISCOs) as well as K-Electric, with the exception of lifeline users, prepaid meter holders, and electric vehicle charging stations. Consumers will benefit from this reduction in their September electricity bills.

Earlier, the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) had proposed a cut of Rs1.69 per unit under the monthly fuel adjustment mechanism. However, NEPRA approved a slightly higher reduction, offering greater relief than initially expected.

This decrease in electricity tariffs is expected to translate into an overall benefit of nearly Rs24.5 billion for consumers. Authorities believe the measure will ease financial pressure on households already struggling with high inflation and energy costs.
