The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has approved a Rs1.50 per unit reduction in the base electricity tariff. This decision, concerning the power rates for fiscal year 2025–26, has been forwarded to the federal government for final approval.

Under the new proposal, the base tariff will be set at Rs34 per unit, down from the current Rs35.50 per unit. However, the revised rate will only take effect once the federal government officially announces it.

Meanwhile, electricity costs may still rise due to a potential increase under the monthly fuel price adjustment for May 2025. The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has requested NEPRA to approve a 10 paisa per unit hike.

NEPRA is scheduled to review the petition in a hearing on June 30. It’s worth noting that this monthly fuel adjustment will not apply to K-Electric consumers.
