The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an advisory warning of potential heavy rainfall and snowfall across several regions of Pakistan, including Sindh, Punjab, Balochistan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
According to the NDMA, multiple cities in Punjab are likely to experience rainfall over the next 24 to 48 hours. These include Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Sargodha, and surrounding areas. The authority has also forecast heavy rain for Islamabad during the same period, advising residents to remain cautious and prepared for changing weather conditions.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, rainfall is expected in most districts, while snowfall is predicted in the province’s northern and mountainous regions. Areas likely to receive snow include Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Kohistan, Naran, Kaghan, and the Galiyat belt. The NDMA noted that snowfall in these high-altitude regions could intensify, increasing the risk of travel disruptions.
Officials have cautioned that persistent rain and snowfall may lead to slippery roads, reduced visibility, and traffic interruptions, particularly in hilly and urban areas. Motorists have been advised to exercise extra care, avoid unnecessary travel, and follow instructions issued by local authorities.
As a precautionary measure, rescue services, district administrations, and road maintenance departments have been directed to remain on high alert. Necessary equipment and personnel are being positioned to respond swiftly to any emergencies, including road blockages or weather-related incidents.
The NDMA emphasized that it is closely monitoring the evolving weather situation and coordinating with provincial and local departments. Early warnings and timely updates are being shared to minimize risks and ensure public safety. Citizens have been urged to stay informed through official channels and take preventive measures to avoid potential hazards caused by adverse weather conditions.
