Karachi Braces for Another Urban Flooding Risk

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a weather alert, warning of heavy rains in Karachi and Hyderabad from August 24 to 28. The downpour may trigger urban flooding, power outages, and disruptions to daily life.

Officials said Hyderabad could face intense rain with thunder and lightning, heightening the flood risk in low-lying areas, while Karachi is expected to receive heavy showers starting Thursday night.

Authorities have urged citizens to remain cautious by avoiding flooded roads, steering clear of electric poles, checking drainage systems, and handling electrical appliances carefully. Families in vulnerable areas have also been advised to prepare emergency kits with essentials like water, food, flashlights, and first aid.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) noted that the recent rain system over Karachi had weakened, leaving only light morning showers. However, a new monsoon system is expected to enter Sindh on August 27, likely bringing more rain to Karachi and other cities until August 30.
