The National Emergencies Operation Center (NEOC) of NDMA has issued a landslide alert for northern Pakistan due to upcoming monsoon rains and unstable slopes.
According to weather forecasts, scattered rainfall is expected in areas of Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu & Kashmir, such as Gilgit, Skardu, Hunza, Astore, Diamir, Ghanche, Muzaffarabad, Neelum Valley, Haveli, Bagh, and Poonch. Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa — including Chitral, Dir, and Kohistan — may also experience heavy downpours.
These conditions raise the threat of landslides, mudslides, rockfalls, and ground collapse in multiple locations. Identified high-risk areas include Kolai Palas (RD 180), Lower and Upper Kohistan (RDs 200 and 240), Tatta Pani (RD 360), Jaglot (RD 480), Nagar (RD 460–480), Hunza (RD 520–540), Rondu, Skardu, and parts of Chitral.
NDMA has advised all relevant Provincial Disaster Management Authorities (PDMAs), local administrations, rescue services, armed forces, and humanitarian partners to ensure preparedness with staff, equipment, and machinery deployed near these critical zones.
Authorities have been directed to stay alert for quick response in case of slope failures or weather-related emergencies. Effective coordination and proactive safety measures are vital to protect communities in these vulnerable areas.
Travelers and residents are urged to remain cautious, avoid non-essential travel, and steer clear of unstable slopes during this heightened risk period
