NDMA Issues Flood Warning for K-P as Province Prepares for Heavy Rainfall

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a flood alert for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) as monsoon rains are expected to hit the province from August 14 to 18. Relevant departments have been placed on high alert due to the increased risk of flooding.

The NDMA warns that the anticipated rainfall could result in urban and flash flooding in both urban areas and mountainous regions, leading to a significant rise in water flow in rivers and streams.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted additional rain in various areas, including Hazara, Malakand Division, Peshawar, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Hangu, Haripur, Kohat, Kurram, Lakki Marwat, Mohmand, Orakzai, and Waziristan.

In a related update, a new monsoon system is expected to reach eastern Sindh on August 16, potentially bringing thunderstorms and rain to Karachi and surrounding rural districts, as per a weather alert from the Meteorological Department.

This system is likely to cause thunderstorms and rain in Karachi from August 16 to 19, with districts such as Mirpurkhas, Umerkot, Sanghar, Jamshoro, Dadu, Thatta, Badin, and Sujawal also anticipating heavy rain and thunderstorms during this period.

Furthermore, from August 16 to 19, thunderstorms and rain are expected in the districts of Ghotki, Sukkur, Khairpur, Kashmore, Jacobabad, Shikarpur, and Larkana.

The Meteorological Department forecasts that Karachi will experience mostly cloudy weather, with light rain and drizzle anticipated over the next three days. On Tuesday, the maximum temperature in the city reached 34.1 degrees Celsius, with humidity levels at 67%.
