NDMA Issues Rain and Landslide Alert for Gilgit-Baltistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a warning for moderate to heavy rainfall expected to continue over the coming days, significantly increasing the risk of localized landslides in Gilgit-Baltistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).

According to the National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) of the NDMA, vulnerable areas include Mansehra, Kolai Palas, Upper Kohistan, Darel, Diamir, Gilgit, Nagar, and Hunza—all of which face a high risk of landslides, rockfalls, slope failure, and ground subsidence due to unstable terrain and persistent rain.

Public Advised to Avoid Unnecessary Travel

The NEOC has urged residents and travelers in these regions to avoid non-essential movement, remain alert to potential hazards, and follow all safety advisories issued by local authorities.

“People in at-risk zones should remain vigilant and stay informed through official channels,” said an NDMA spokesperson.

Infrastructure and Transport May Be Affected

The ongoing weather system may disrupt transportation routes, infrastructure, and communication networks. Local authorities are advised to ensure pre-emptive measures, and emergency response teams are on high alert and ready to respond to any incidents.

Citizens are strongly encouraged to use the Pak NDMA Disaster Alert App for real-time updates, weather warnings, and life-saving guidelines. Regular updates are also being shared on social media, news broadcasts, and NDMA’s official platforms.

NDMA Monitoring the Situation

The NDMA continues to monitor the weather conditions closely in coordination with local governments and meteorological agencies. It calls on all residents in affected regions to prioritize safety, prepare for possible evacuations, and stay connected to official sources for updated advisories.
