NDMA Issues 48-Hour Flood Warning for Punjab

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a 48-hour alert, warning of heavy monsoon rains that could put river basins across Pakistan under severe strain.

Weather systems from the Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea are expected to trigger intense downpours, particularly in upper and central Punjab, heightening risks of flash floods, urban flooding, and landslides.

The Ravi River poses the most immediate danger, already reaching exceptionally high flood levels at Jassar with a discharge of 202,020 cusecs. Shahdara and Head Baloki are also at medium flood levels, raising alarms for nearby areas.

Authorities are closely monitoring Narowal, Shahdara, and northern Lahore, including vulnerable localities such as Kot Mahbo, Aziz Colony, Qaiser Town, and Faisal Park. In Sheikhupura’s Ferozewala tehsil, areas like Faizpur Khu, Burj Attari, and Kot Abdul Malik are on alert, while Ganesh Pur in Nankana Sahib and flood-prone villages in Kasur’s Pattoki tehsil and Khanewal remain at risk.

Residents have been advised to keep emergency kits ready with essentials such as clean water, dry food, medicines, and torches. Local administrations have been directed to implement contingency plans and strengthen safety measures immediately.
