Nationwide Ban on Police Personnel Using Social Media While on Duty

Police personnel across Pakistan are now prohibited from using social media while on duty, with the latest enforcement coming from Karachi police. This directive, implemented by Police Chief Javed Alam Odho, bans officers from using platforms like TikTok and requires prior authorization for any social media activity.

The ban follows similar restrictions introduced in Punjab by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, aimed at curtailing the viral spread of videos featuring police officers, particularly incidents involving female personnel. The Punjab Inspector General has established strict guidelines mandating that any content involving police uniforms, vehicles, or equipment must be pre-approved and disseminated only through official police accounts.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), a similar directive has been issued, instructing all police officers and personnel to refrain from social media use. The enforcement of these policies is now a responsibility of regional and unit heads, who are held accountable for compliance within their jurisdictions.

The overarching goal of these measures is to maintain professionalism and prevent misuse of social media by police personnel, with clear consequences for any violations.
