The nation is celebrating the 85th Pakistan Day today (Sunday) with traditional enthusiasm and a renewed commitment to building a true Islamic and welfare state, following the vision of Pakistan’s founder.
March 23 commemorates the historic Lahore Resolution, passed in 1940, which paved the way for the creation of a separate homeland for Muslims in the Subcontinent. This resolution remains a defining moment in Pakistan’s history, reflecting the aspirations of the Muslim community.

The day began with a 31-gun salute in Islamabad and a 21-gun salute in provincial capitals. Special prayers were offered in mosques after Fajr, seeking national prosperity and progress.
A key highlight of the celebrations is the Pakistan Day Military Parade at Aiwan-e-Sadr in Islamabad. Due to Ramadan, the parade is being conducted on a limited scale. President Asif Ali Zardari is the chief guest, marking the importance of the occasion.
The parade features personnel from all three branches of the armed forces, with Pakistan Air Force fighter jets performing an aerial flypast to demonstrate the country’s defense capabilities.
Radio Pakistan and PTV are broadcasting special programs to pay tribute to the leaders and workers of the Pakistan Movement, emphasizing the day’s significance in shaping the nation’s identity.
