Veteran Bollywood actor Naseeruddin Shah has voiced strong support for singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh, who is facing mounting criticism from hardline groups over his latest film Sardaar Ji 3, which features Pakistani actress Hania Aamir. The film’s cross-border casting has sparked outrage among certain factions, with some calling for a boycott of Diljit’s future projects.
Shah, in a bold social media statement, condemned what he described as politically charged attacks orchestrated by extremist elements. “I STAND FIRMLY WITH DILJIT,” Shah wrote. “The dirty tricks deptt of Jumla Party has been awaiting a chance to attack him… He was not responsible for the casting of the film, the director was.”

The acclaimed actor praised Diljit’s open-mindedness and refusal to engage in hate-fueled politics, stating that his decision to participate in the project came from a place of artistic freedom rather than political intent. Shah further criticized attempts to sever personal and cultural connections between India and Pakistan.
Highlighting his own personal ties across the border, Shah said, “What these goons want is to put an end to personal interaction between the people of India and Pakistan. I have close relatives and some dear friends there and no one can stop me from meeting them or sending them love whenever I feel like it.”
Through his remarks, Shah underscored the importance of protecting artistic expression and cross-cultural dialogue from political interference.
