NAB Summons Malik Riaz’s Son in Bahria Town Money Laundering Probe

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Rawalpindi has summoned four individuals, including Ali Riaz Malik, son of Bahria Town founder Malik Riaz, in connection with a money laundering investigation involving Bahria Town Limited.

The others called under the Anti-Money Laundering Act, 2010, are Khalilur Rehman, Muhammad Ishaq, and Aamir Rasheed Awan. They have been directed to appear before NAB Rawalpindi on August 26 at 10 am with all relevant records. Investigators believe the individuals are linked to acquiring, transferring, and misusing funds, and may hold evidence vital to the inquiry.

Bahria Town’s Alleged Money Laundering Network

Earlier this month, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar revealed that the FIA had uncovered “irrefutable evidence” of a Bahria Town-operated money laundering network. During a raid, FIA officials reportedly recovered documents showing transactions worth Rs1.12 billion.

According to Tarar, a front office was secretly being run from Safari Hospital, a Bahria Town facility, where ambulances were allegedly used to move cash and sensitive files. Hospital staff allegedly tried to destroy records during the raid, but investigators managed to recover key evidence. The documents allegedly link Bahria Town’s top finance officials to a “hundi-hawala” network run by two men identified as Imran and Qaiser.

NAB Auctions Bahria Town Assets

On August 7, NAB auctioned six commercial properties linked to Malik Riaz and Bahria Town to recover funds from a 2019 plea bargain settlement of £190 million, which the developer failed to honor.

Among the sold properties, Rubaish Marquee fetched Rs508 million, while two corporate offices received conditional bids of Rs876 million and Rs881.5 million. NAB confirmed that transfer of recovered funds is in process.
