Murree is preparing for a major tourist rush as the country gets ready to celebrate Independence Day. Thousands of people from across Pakistan are expected to visit the hill station on August 14.
To manage the growing number of visitors, Murree‘s traffic police have issued a special plan. Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Waseem Akhtar shared the details on Tuesday. Over 200 traffic officers will be deployed across the city to guide travelers and maintain order.
Major entry routes to Murree, including the Expressway and RMK GT Road, will stay open for traffic coming from Rawalpindi and Islamabad. However, certain roads within the city will be made one-way to reduce congestion. These include View Forth Road, Bank Road, Hall Road, Kuldana Road, and Imtiaz Shaheed Road.
Mall Road, a key tourist spot, will be closed to vehicles. It will remain open only to pedestrians for safety and ease of movement.
To improve coordination, Murree has been divided into five traffic sectors. Large vehicles, including heavy buses, will not be allowed between 6:00 AM and 2:00 AM. Checkpoints will be set up at Murree Brewery, Bansra Gali, and Lower Topa to control traffic flow.
Traffic heading to Azad Kashmir will be diverted via the Expressway to avoid pressure on local roads.
Parking rules have also been updated. Visitors will not be allowed to park within 200 meters of major intersections like GPO Chowk and Kuldana Chowk. Tourists are advised to use designated parking zones.
A traffic control room has been set up to assist the public. For help, citizens can call 051-9269200.
Authorities urge all visitors to follow the traffic plan to ensure a safe and smooth experience during the Independence Day celebrations.
