Muhammad Iqbal Assigned Additional Responsibilities As FBR Chairman

Muhammad Iqbal, a grade 22 officer of the Inland Revenue Service, has been assigned the additional charge of Chairman of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR). The decision was made as the current FBR Chairman, Rashid Langrial, is set to go on ex-Pakistan leave from October 20 to 25.

During this period, Muhammad Iqbal will perform the duties of the FBR chairman and oversee all key administrative and policy matters. The Federal Board of Revenue issued an official notification confirming the temporary appointment. The arrangement is intended to ensure smooth functioning of the organization during Langrial’s absence.

Muhammad Iqbal is currently serving as Member Administration and Human Resources at the FBR. He is known for his extensive experience in tax management, policy formulation, and organizational administration. His leadership is expected to help maintain continuity in the revenue authority’s ongoing operations.

According to officials, this appointment is part of routine administrative practice to ensure that the FBR continues to operate efficiently while senior officials are away. Muhammad Iqbal will handle the chairman’s responsibilities for a brief period but will continue his existing role as Member Administration and HR simultaneously.

The FBR plays a crucial role in Pakistan’s financial system, overseeing revenue collection, tax reforms, and compliance measures. Temporary changes in leadership, such as Muhammad Iqbal’s appointment, are common to maintain administrative stability.

The Federal Board of Revenue reaffirmed that all routine operations and ongoing projects will continue without disruption during this temporary transition.
