Motorway Facilities To Also Get Major Upgrades

Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan conducted an inspection of multiple rest areas along the Lahore–Islamabad Motorway (M2) to assess current facilities and interact with travelers. The visit aimed to evaluate services and plan improvements for commuters using the busy motorway.

During the tour, the minister reviewed rest houses, shops, and other amenities at different service areas. He spoke with passengers to understand their experiences and gather feedback. Following the inspection, he instructed the Frontier Works Organization (FWO) and the National Highway Authority (NHA) to prepare a joint plan within 15 days to enhance motorway facilities.

The proposed plan will focus on the expansion of rest areas, implementing a uniform layout for shops, and ensuring the provision of food and beverages at fixed prices for travelers. The objective is to create a standardized and convenient experience for commuters across all motorway service points.

Abdul Aleem Khan also directed authorities to compile daily traffic data for the M2, including the number of vehicles passing through. This information will be used to plan future expansions and manage traffic flow efficiently at rest areas.

At the Bhera Rest Area, the minister met several overseas Pakistanis who expressed their appreciation for the existing motorway facilities. He emphasized that proper maintenance and visually organized rest areas are key to enhancing user experience.

The minister concluded that standardized shop layouts, improved amenities, and careful planning based on traffic data would ensure a safer and more comfortable journey for all M2 motorway users.
