LONDON: Pakistani student Moosa Harraj has been elected as the president of the Oxford University Student Union for the upcoming term.
He becomes the fourth Pakistani to hold this esteemed position, following in the footsteps of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto and past presidents Ahmad Nawaz and Israr Khan. Notably, Harraj is the first Pakistani-origin president from Punjab.

In a highly competitive race for leadership at the renowned debating society, Harraj secured a decisive victory over his opponent, Chris Collins, winning by a margin of 200 votes. The election saw an exceptionally high voter turnout, with Harraj receiving 833 first-preference votes—one of the highest counts in recent years.
Harraj joined Oxford University in 2023 to pursue an MPhil in Economics at Balliol College. His early education took place at Aitchison College in Lahore, followed by secondary studies at Charterhouse School in Surrey.
The son of Federal Minister Raza Hayat Harraj, he has now added another milestone to Pakistan’s academic achievements.
Pakistan’s High Commissioner to the UK, Dr. Faisal, extended his congratulations, calling the election a proud moment for Pakistan and wishing Harraj success in his future endeavors.
