Punjab and parts of Pakistan are experiencing another intense monsoon spell, sparking fears of urban flooding and large-scale destruction. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a high alert, warning of continued torrential rainfall over the next 24 hours, especially in major cities like Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Gujranwala. Other areas such as Kasur, Sheikhupura, and Sialkot are also bracing for heavy downpours that could cause severe disruption.

Authorities are closely monitoring riverbanks along the Chenab, Jhelum, and Ravi, fearing dangerous rises in water levels that could threaten nearby communities. In Rawalpindi, the situation has already worsened, prompting WASA to declare a rain emergency after parts of the city received over 80mm of rain. Localities such as Golra and Bokra recorded 30mm and 32mm respectively, while urban drainage systems struggled to cope.

Islamabad has also been hit hard, with Saidpur receiving 90mm of rainfall, leading to waterlogged streets and traffic disruptions. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast ongoing rain through the end of July and warned of potential flash floods, landslides, and infrastructure damage in vulnerable regions. Emergency teams remain on high alert across affected provinces.

Nationwide, the monsoon has already caused significant human and material losses. At least 279 people have lost their lives, including over 150 in Punjab alone. More than 530 people have been injured, while KP, Sindh, and Balochistan have reported dozens of additional fatalities. Authorities are urging residents to avoid unnecessary travel, stay informed through official updates, and take precautions as the extreme weather continues.
