Ex-Olympians Call On Mohsin Naqvi To Save Pakistan Hockey Team

Former Pakistani hockey stars are calling on Mohsin Naqvi to support the national hockey team at a critical time. Pakistan has a chance to rejoin the world’s elite by participating in the FIH Pro League. However, financial and administrative problems are blocking this opportunity.

Olympian and former national coach Tauqeer Dar recently urged Mohsin Naqvi, the PCB Chairman, to help Pakistan hockey. He said funding the hockey team is not an expense but an investment in the country’s sporting future. Dar stressed the importance of the Pro League, calling it a key platform for the team’s revival.

Pakistan had withdrawn from the Pro League once before due to internal conflicts and money issues. Dar called this move disastrous. He noted that India replaced Pakistan in the league and has since won two Olympic bronze medals.

Dar compared the Pro League to cricket’s Champions Trophy or World Cup. He explained that playing regularly against strong teams like the Netherlands and Belgium will help Pakistani players improve. “Our players will learn from the best, and this will boost their skills,” he said.

Other former players, including Olympian Khawaja Junaid and coach Tahir Zaman, agree with Dar’s view. They also want more support for hockey.

The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has faced criticism for its management. While the government is considering giving funds to PHF, the Pakistan Cricket Board remains the only sports body with a solid financial base. Mohsin Naqvi controls these resources, making his role crucial.

Former hockey stars trust Mohsin Naqvi more than the PHF to use funds properly. With time running out to join the Pro League, Pakistan hockey needs clear support. Fans and players now look to Mohsin Naqvi for a decision. His response could shape the future of hockey in Pakistan.
