Moderate Earthquake Felt Across Karachi and Parts of Balochistan

A moderate earthquake struck parts of Karachi and several areas of Balochistan on Tuesday, triggering panic among residents but causing no immediate reports of major damage or casualties. The tremors were felt across different neighbourhoods, briefly disrupting daily life and prompting people to move outdoors as a precaution.

In Karachi, residents in Malir, Landhi, Korangi, Shah Faisal Colony, and surrounding areas reported feeling noticeable shaking for several seconds. Many people rushed out of homes, offices, and shops, fearing aftershocks. Office work was temporarily suspended in some locations as employees gathered in open spaces until the tremors subsided.

Several residents said light household items shook, while doors and windows rattled during the quake. Despite the fear, most buildings remained intact, and there were no reports of structural collapse. City administration officials stated that monitoring teams were activated soon after the earthquake to assess the situation and ensure public safety.

Tremors were also felt in multiple districts of Balochistan, including parts of the coastal belt and central regions. Local residents said the earthquake was clearly felt but did not last long. Authorities in the province confirmed that preliminary inspections did not indicate serious damage to infrastructure or homes.

Officials from the Pakistan Meteorological Department confirmed that the earthquake was of moderate intensity. They explained that Pakistan lies on the boundary of active tectonic plates, making seismic activity relatively common. Experts noted that tremors felt in Karachi are often linked to offshore seismic zones or nearby fault lines.

Emergency and rescue services in both Karachi and Balochistan were placed on alert following the incident. Hospitals were advised to remain prepared in case of injuries, while disaster management authorities coordinated with local administrations to monitor any potential aftershocks. However, no surge in emergency calls was reported.

Authorities urged citizens to remain calm and avoid spreading rumours or unverified information on social media. People were advised to follow standard earthquake safety guidelines, including staying away from damaged structures, moving to open areas during tremors, and remaining alert for possible aftershocks. Officials said further updates would be shared if needed as assessments continued.
