The 9th of Muharram processions are underway across various cities in Pakistan, with extensive security measures in place to ensure the safety of participants.
Lahore
In Lahore, the main procession started at Pando Street in Islampura, moving towards Khaima-e-Sadaat and then returning to Pando Street. Police have reported 79 processions happening in the city today. To ensure security, over 11,000 police officers have been deployed, and the route of the procession has been closed to general traffic.
Islamabad
In Islamabad, the main procession will depart from G-6 Imambargah, following traditional routes to its destination. Strict security measures include blocking streets and roads with containers and barbed wire. Mobile phone services have been suspended in various areas to enhance security.
Karachi
In Karachi, the 9th Muharram procession is scheduled to start from Nishtar Park at noon. Security arrangements are in place, with more than 4,200 police personnel supported by Rangers. Sharpshooters are positioned on high-rise buildings, markets along the procession routes have been sealed, and 120 streets have been blocked with containers. A ban on pillion riding is in effect, and mobile phone services on the procession routes have been suspended. The procession will end at Hussainia Iranian.
Quetta
In Quetta, the procession will begin at Imambargah Nasirulaza at 2 pm, following traditional routes and returning to the same location. Comprehensive security measures are in place, and mobile phone services have been suspended to prevent any incidents.
Bahawalpur
In Bahawalpur, there are 30 processions and 77 majalis planned for the 9th of Muharram. More than 3,200 security personnel and over 1,600 volunteers have been deployed for security. The Dolphin Squad, Eagle Squad, Elite Force, and Special Branch are also on duty. Barbed wire and walk-through gates have been set up at procession entrances, and CCTV cameras are monitoring the designated routes.
Dera Ismail Khan
The main procession for the 9th of Muharram has begun from the historic Imambargah of Bammu Shah. The procession will follow traditional routes and conclude at Imam Imambargah Lato Faqir. Strict security measures have been implemented along the procession routes, and mobile phone services have been suspended.
