Maryam had been playing with other children in Mohalla Qazian, Ratta Amral, when she disappeared. Her frantic parents searched for her before her grandmother, Musarat Bibi, approached the police and filed a missing person report.

The next day, her body was discovered in a sewerage line in Dhoke Ratta. Police arrived at the scene and sent the remains to District Headquarters Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Investigators later arrested the suspect, identified as 10-year-old Azan Sultan, who lived in the same household as Maryam. The boy was moved to a protection bureau under court orders.

During questioning, Azan reportedly confessed, stating, “I didn’t like her,” and admitted to submerging the toddler’s head in the sewerage water. CCTV footage corroborated his involvement, showing him carrying Maryam away from the street.

Maryam’s father, an employee of the cantonment board, was left devastated by the tragedy. Meanwhile, it was revealed that the accused boy’s father is a drug addict, and his mother had left the family to live with her parents.

After the post-mortem, Maryam’s body was returned to her grieving family. Police are continuing their investigation into the incident.
