Former Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq has emerged as a contender for the head coach role of the national Test team, as confusion continues to surround the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) recruitment process.
Misbah, who served as head coach and chief selector between 2019 and 2021, has shown strong interest in returning to lead the red-ball squad. Sources say he has already been interviewed and remains in contact with PCB officials.

However, insiders have raised concerns over the lack of clear direction from the board. Members of the selection committee and team mentors reportedly held meetings with PCB leadership but received no formal communication on the coaching appointment or long-term plans for the Test setup.
“This ongoing silence from the board has only added to the uncertainty and frustration within the selection panel,” a source stated.
Despite the unclear situation, the PCB has instructed selectors to proceed with routine duties until further notice.
