The Ministry of Religious Affairs has taken a significant step in making Hajj more affordable for Pakistani pilgrims by announcing a fixed airfare of $800 per person with Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) for the upcoming pilgrimage. This is a notable reduction from last year’s cost of $850 per pilgrim. PIA has been allocated a quota of 35,000 pilgrims for this year’s Hajj, ensuring more affordable travel for Pakistanis performing this sacred journey.

In addition to the reduced airfare, the Ministry has proposed a new payment structure aimed at easing the financial burden on low-income and middle-class citizens. The government has submitted a proposal to allow pilgrims to pay Hajj expenses in three installments, rather than a lump sum. Under this proposed scheme, the total cost for Hajj would be Rs1.1 million, and pilgrims would be required to pay an initial Rs200,000 when applying. If selected in the lucky draw, they would then pay an additional Rs400,000, with the remaining balance to be cleared before departure.
This move is seen as a step towards making Hajj more accessible and financially feasible for a larger number of Pakistanis.
