Middle East Crisis Escalates as China Reacts to Iran Strike

China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has expressed serious concern over the US–Israeli strikes on Iran and called for an immediate ceasefire. Authorities urged all parties to prevent further escalation and return to dialogue and negotiations to resolve tensions peacefully. In its statement released on Saturday, the ministry emphasized that Iran’s sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity must be respected under international law.

On Sunday, China’s embassy in Israel issued an advisory urging Chinese citizens to move to safer locations within Israel or evacuate the country via the Taba border crossing into Egypt. Similarly, China’s foreign ministry advised its nationals in Iran to leave the country “as soon as possible,” outlining four land routes through Azerbaijan, Armenia, Turkey, and Iraq to ensure safe departure amid rising tensions.

The United States and Israel reportedly launched coordinated strikes on Iran targeting its military capabilities. Iranian state media claimed that the operation resulted in the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. The attack significantly escalated regional tensions and drew strong international reactions.

China’s state-run Xinhua news agency condemned the strikes, describing them as “brazen aggression against a sovereign nation” and accusing Washington of pursuing “power politics and hegemony.” It further stated that the use of military force violates the United Nations Charter and undermines fundamental principles of international relations.

Meanwhile, Hong Kong-based airline operator Cathay Group suspended its Middle East operations due to security concerns. The suspension affects passenger flights to Dubai and Riyadh as well as freight services through Dubai’s Al Maktoum International Airport, citing ongoing regional instability following the attacks.
