Microsoft Unveils Surface Pro 12 and Surface Laptop 13 with Snapdragon X Plus and Windows 11 Copilot+ Features
Microsoft has announced the launch of two new Surface devices: the Surface Pro 12 and the Surface Laptop 13. Both devices are powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Plus processor and run Windows 11, with integrated Copilot+ PC features for enhanced performance and productivity.
Surface Pro 12: A Powerful 2-in-1 Device
The Surface Pro 12 is a versatile 2-in-1 device designed for both productivity and entertainment. It features a 12-inch LCD touchscreen with a resolution of 2,196 x 1,464 pixels and a 90Hz refresh rate. Maintaining the iconic 3:2 aspect ratio, this device is ideal for multitasking, note-taking, and media consumption. It also supports stylus input, and the Surface Slim Pen is included, charging magnetically on the back.
Equipped with a 1080p front-facing camera for Windows Hello facial recognition and a 10MP rear camera, the Surface Pro 12 ensures seamless video calls and photography. The device also features an adjustable kickstand and a detachable keyboard (with the Alcantara finish removed from previous models). Weighing just 686 grams and measuring 7.8mm thick, it’s portable and sleek.
Internally, the Surface Pro 12 is powered by the Snapdragon X Plus chip, paired with 16GB of LPDDR5x RAM and 256GB or 512GB of storage. It is fanless, using passive cooling for quiet operation. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, and two USB-C ports supporting USB 3.2 and DisplayPort 1.4a standards. The proprietary Surface Connect charging port has been removed.
Microsoft claims that the Surface Pro 12 offers up to 12 hours of battery life during web browsing and up to 16 hours for local video playback. The device is available in Platinum, Violet, and Ocean colors, with a starting price of $800.
Surface Laptop 13: Compact and Powerful
The Surface Laptop 13 is the most compact model in the Surface Laptop family. It features a 13-inch LCD display with a resolution of 1,920 x 1,280 pixels, a 3:2 aspect ratio, and a 60Hz refresh rate. Like the Surface Pro 12, it also includes a 1080p front-facing camera with Windows Hello support.
Powered by the same Snapdragon X Plus processor, the Surface Laptop 13 also boasts 16GB of LPDDR5x RAM and options for 256GB or 512GB of storage. Its sleek aluminum chassis makes it both stylish and durable, with a weight of 1.22 kilograms.
For connectivity, the Surface Laptop 13 features one USB-A 3.1 port, two USB-C ports supporting USB 4 and DisplayPort 1.4a, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. It also supports Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4.
Microsoft claims that the Surface Laptop 13 provides up to 16 hours of battery life for web browsing and an impressive up to 23 hours for local video playback. The laptop is available in Ocean, Violet, and Platinum colors, with a starting price of $900. Deliveries are scheduled for May 20.
