MG to Unveil Its New Electric SUV, the ES5, in Pakistan

A new electric vehicle is set to make its debut in Pakistan: the MG ES5 EV, a compact SUV that was recently unveiled at the Shanghai Auto Show 2025. MG Pakistan aims to expand its electric vehicle (EV) portfolio by introducing the ES5, offering a fresh and modern alternative to traditional fuel-powered SUVs.

The MG ES5 is designed as the next-generation successor to the MG ZS EV in international markets such as Europe, the UK, and Australia. It is built on the Modular Scalable Platform (MSP), the same platform used for the MG4 hatchback, but with significant upgrades. The ES5 features a longer wheelbase, an updated design, and advanced technology.

Key Dimensions:

  • Length: 4,476 mm (176.2 inches) — 162 mm longer than the ZS EV
  • Wheelbase: 2,730 mm (107.5 inches)
  • Width: 1,849 mm
  • Height: 1,621 mm
  • Weight: 1,685–1,720 kg

Unlike the MG ZS 2025, which has switched to hybrid-only options, the ES5 remains a fully electric vehicle.

Exterior Design: The ES5 boasts a sleek, aerodynamic front with a grille-less design, inspired by the cyberster’s bumper intakes and slim, split LED headlights. At the rear, it features a full-width LED taillight strip, akin to the MG4, focusing on both efficiency and a futuristic aesthetic.

Interior and Features: Inside, the MG ES5 offers a minimalist and modern cabin with several cutting-edge features:

  • 6-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system
  • 25-inch digital instrument cluster
  • D-shaped steering wheel with a gear selector behind the wheel
  • Wireless charging pad and convenient cup holders
  • A 4 to 6-speaker audio system (depending on the variant)

The spacious interior and technology-focused dashboard are designed to elevate the driving experience.

Powertrain and Range: The ES5 is equipped with a single rear-mounted electric motor generating 168 horsepower (170 PS) and 250 Nm of torque. It features an ultra-slim lithium iron phosphate battery developed by SAIC-CATL, available in three different battery options.

The largest battery option, with a capacity of 62.2 kWh, offers an impressive driving range of up to 525 km on the CLTC cycle. Although the current model uses a single-motor setup, MG may eventually introduce dual-motor all-wheel drive versions.

Competitive Landscape: The MG ES5 will face competition from other compact electric SUVs such as the Kia EV4 and Peugeot E-2008. With its striking design, spacious interior, and competitive driving range, the MG ES5 has the potential to become a strong player in Pakistan’s growing electric vehicle market, provided it is priced competitively.
