The ARM Cuauhtémoc, a Mexican Navy training ship, collided with the Brooklyn Bridge in what has been described as a navigational error, injuring nearly two dozen people—some critically.
International media reports indicate the tall-masted vessel struck the iconic New York City bridge while attempting to pass beneath it. The ship’s masts clipped the bridge structure, causing debris to fall onto the deck where several crew members were positioned, resulting in multiple injuries.

The ship, on an annual training voyage with over 200 people aboard, reportedly experienced a power failure just before the crash, possibly leading to misjudged height clearance.
Authorities confirmed that no one fell into the water and the bridge itself suffered no major structural damage. Emergency crews responded swiftly, and all injured individuals were taken to local hospitals.
The U.S. Coast Guard stated the ship lost the tops of two masts in the collision but affirmed that all crew members were safe and accounted for. The Mexican Navy acknowledged the damage and said a formal investigation has begun.
New York City officials urged the public to avoid nearby areas, including the South Street Seaport and DUMBO, citing expected traffic disruptions and a strong emergency services presence.
