Metro, Bus Services Halted in Lahore and Islamabad

The Metro Bus and Orange Line train services in Lahore, along with bus operations in Islamabad, have been suspended due to the ongoing law and order situation. The suspension has caused widespread inconvenience for commuters across both cities, leaving thousands stranded at major stations.

According to official sources, transport authorities decided to halt operations early Friday morning after security agencies raised concerns over potential unrest in several parts of the cities. The move is said to be precautionary, aimed at ensuring the safety of passengers and transport staff.

In Lahore, the Orange Line train and Metro Bus corridors which usually serve thousands of daily passengers were shut down indefinitely. Long queues formed at bus stops as citizens struggled to find alternative transport. Many office workers, students, and daily wage earners faced significant delays and difficulty reaching their destinations.

Residents expressed frustration over the lack of prior notice. “I reached the station only to find the gates locked. There were no announcements about the suspension,” said a commuter waiting near Kalma Chowk. Taxi and rickshaw drivers reportedly increased fares due to the surge in demand.

Meanwhile, in Islamabad, Metro Bus services connecting Rawalpindi and the federal capital were also temporarily halted. Officials said the decision would remain in effect until security conditions improve. Additional police units have been deployed around sensitive areas and transport hubs to maintain order.

Authorities have urged citizens to stay updated through official transport helplines and social media channels before planning their travel. However, no specific timeline has been announced for the restoration of services.

The disruption has once again highlighted the vulnerability of urban transport networks to security concerns. Analysts say such repeated suspensions not only inconvenience the public but also impact the city’s economic activity and daily workforce mobility.

Citizens have called on the government to introduce backup plans or alternate routes during such emergencies to avoid large-scale disruptions in the future.

In related developments, the Sindh government recently declared a public holiday on October 20, underscoring how regional authorities are making key administrative decisions amid varying public situations across provinces.

Officials in Punjab and Islamabad have assured that efforts are underway to assess the situation, and services will resume as soon as conditions stabilize. For now, commuters are advised to plan ahead and use private transport where possible until normal operations return.
