Meta Unveils Llama API To Boost AI Integration For Developers

Meta Platforms has announced the launch of its Llama API, designed to make it easier for businesses and developers to build AI products using its Llama artificial intelligence models. The announcement came during Meta’s inaugural AI developer conference on Tuesday, marking a strategic move to compete directly with APIs from OpenAI, Google, and emerging rivals like China’s DeepSeek.

With the new API, developers can integrate Llama models into their applications with a single line of code, Meta’s chief product officer Chris Cox revealed. While pricing details remain undisclosed, the API is currently available in a limited preview, with a broader rollout expected over the coming months.

Meta emphasized that developers will have full control over customized models, unlike offerings from some competitors, which often lock models onto proprietary servers. The company’s approach of largely open access aims to foster innovation and deepen engagement across its platforms.

In addition to the Llama API, Meta introduced a standalone AI assistant app and hinted at a paid AI chatbot subscription service planned for later this year. CEO Mark Zuckerberg highlighted that increasing competition will empower developers to choose and combine the best models to meet their needs.
